Be present, thrilling, memorable, and relaxed! Learn tools for specificity and emotional connection, ways to activate and personalize the text, stay truthful, support bold choices and make auditioning a joy from choosing material to table talk. Bring two copies of a monologue you are working on (no need to memorize).

Naomi Jacobson, a professional actor working in the DC area for the last 25 years, is an Affiliated Artist with the Shakespeare Theatre and a Woolly Mammoth Theatre company member. Credits include The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Ford’s Theatre, Signature, Studio, Center Stage, The Goodman Theatre, The Guthrie, Cincinnati Playhouse, Milwaukee Rep and the Berkshire Theatre Festival. Her TV/film work includes Homicide, Her Father’s Eyes for A&E, and narration for PBS, NPR, Discovery Channel, Smithsonian and numerous commercials and industrials. Jacobon’s received three Helen Hayes Awards (15 nominations), a Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship, the Hopkins Anderson Award for Excellence in Theatre, and an Individual Artist Grant from the D.C. Arts Commission. She spearheaded the Actors Arena through Arena Stage, a continuing education program for professional actors. The most powerful tool you have as an actor is YOU. In this workshop, you will learn how to be “yourself" in every aspect of the business while also thriving within the confines of a typecasting industry. Landing an agent, getting auditions and booking work starts by embracing your type and knowing how the industry sees you. However, it is developing your unique niche, which is the secret to achieving your career dreams. In this workshop type and image expert Mark Atteberry will walk you through a series of exercises that will help you to identify your type, define your image and create your own unique niche. You will learn how to market yourself far more effectively, in a way that captures the attention of the industry and ensures that your career will be a long and successful one.

About Mark Atteberry
Mark Atteberry is an award-winning actor, photographer and image expert. His numerous acting credits include features like Gone Girl and The Hulk. His television work includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Black-ish, Grace & Frankie, Grey's Anatomy, Code Black, Scandal and many more. Atteberry is internationally known for his advertising and headshot photography and was voted "Top Headshot Photographer in L.A.” by Backstage magazine. Known as “L.A.’s Type Specialist” he teaches and lectures regularly on type, image and branding for the actor. He has written several books including the Working Actor's Guide to L.A. and is the founder of Be a Working Actor Studios.

Award winning actor Karen Austin unpacks self-sabotage, your (dis)comfort zone, the leap into strong choices, and practical techniques for delivering your best. The opposite of fear is work. Group exercises and a few participants may perform on-camera, time permitting.

SAG-AFTRA San Francisco-Northern California Conservatory Presents: "Up Your Game" With Jeffrey Weissman

Bring in your current audition sides, monologue or short scene and be prepared to work. This workshop focuses on centering, relaxing, making choices for behavior, relationships, deepening and heightening.

Class size is limited to 12 participants max.

Participants will be randomly selected from those who register, with preference being given to those who have not attended Conservatory events within the past 3 months. As a courtesy to members on the waiting list, if you have reserved a space in this workshop and cannot attend, please cancel your reservation by Thursday, February 28. Failure to do so may result in the inability to attend future workshops.

We appreciate your enthusiasm to participate in conservatory classes, but anyone who shows up without receiving written confirmation will not be granted access to the class. If you arrive late, it is up to the discretion of the teacher as to whether or not you will be admitted.

Cost: There is no charge for this event.

Directions/Parking: Public transportation is available (BART and MUNI – Walking distance from Montgomery Street Station). Street parking is also available in the immediate areas around the building.

Jeffrey Weissman has appeared in over 70 motion pictures, and television shows. Notably as George McFly in Back to the Future Parts II and III with Michael J. Fox, in Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood, Twilight Zone: the Movie with John Lithgow, guest star roles on Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Max Headroom, Dallas, The Man Show, Diagnosis: Murder, Saved by the Bell and others. He brings the knowledge from his work on big budget majors and low budget indies, industrials, commercials, voice overs, mo-cap, spokesperson, trade shows, publicity appearances, stage and environmental theater. Jeffrey has coached acting talent for over 30 years, using his 45 years industry experience. He trained at ACT, SFSU, SMCC, in Hollywood at the Studios of Jackie Benton, Peter Flood, and Harvey Lembeck. He has been artistic director of several improvisation groups and 'helped form legendary Los Angeles Theater Sports. In Norcal, he's teaches at San Francisco Acting Academy, Bay Area Professional Actors Studio, and he’s taught at Sonoma State University, San Francisco School of Digital Film Making, Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts (SOTA), Dominican University and workshops at festivals and expos around the country. Please join Associate Executive Director Jane Love and Senior Business Representatives Ryan Hastings and Jess W. Speaker III for their popular “SAG-AFTRA 101” class. This 90-minute conversation will provide attendees with information on performer’s rights and protections, present an overview of some of the key elements of the Commercial, Corporate/Educational and Non-Broadcast, Television, and Theatrical Agreements, discuss the benefits of membership, and share the resources available to members of SAG-AFTRA. This presentation is perfect for new and veteran members alike.

At the end of the presentation, there will also be an opportunity to address questions. If there is a question you would like addressed, please submit it in advance to Ryan Hastings at ryan.hastings@sagaftra.org.
