WMA Health and Wellness Day: Stress and Anxiety for Actors

An actor’s life is filled with ups and downs. Due to the nature of work, we can sometimes feel worried, imbalanced, nervous, and more.

​In this express workshop, host and actress Vanessa Meadows will share some of her most innovative and cognitive-based strategies for actors so that they can to begin to successfully take control of stress and anxiety in their careers, audition room and personal lives.

An actor, instructor, & speaker, Meadows has been acting and performing for over 25 years. Throughout her career she has been involved in over 50 productions on both the stage and screen, and has taught musical theater (Syracuse Children's Theater), been a casting assistant on an award-winning film (TRI), produced and much more. In addition to acting, she currently hosts workshops for actors and her upcoming self-produced documentary is in post-production.

WMA Health and Wellness Day: Gratitude Writing

Research shows that a regular practice of gratitude journaling leads to outcomes that include better sleep, clearer focus, increased self-esteem, and improved relationships. There is a range of gratitude journaling approaches: simple and short, timed or open-ended, sporadic or planned.

Join instructor Cathy Raines and experience several techniques for yourself. If you have a journal, please bring it. We will also have materials available.

Raines has more than 20 years of experience as a professional coach and facilitator of leadership courses and group retreats. She served as coaching program manager and leadership development specialist at the U.S. Department of State, director of training and organizational development at NPR, and director of human resources at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague.

Get on the Mic with Nick Fondulis

Beginners can learn booth basics including proper mic technique & terms while getting over their fear of VO. Those with more experience can hone their commercial approach with current trends. For students of all levels.

Nick Fondulis is an experienced VO artist with dozens of bookings over the last decade in TV, Film, Radio, Video Games, Apps & Live Theater including currently running commercial campaigns. With this versatile VO seminar he hopes to banish any booth intimidation that students may have & help them find their most marketable voice.

SINGERS: Register for the Fall 2019 Session of Sight Singing Classes

Attention singers! SAG-AFTRA New York is pleased to announce the continuation of the popular sight singing classes led by Chantel Wright that began this summer. These classes are a great opportunity to develop a valuable skill and network with other singers in the New York area. The sessions are geared toward professional singers and are designed for learning to sing at sight.

The fall session begins the week of Oct. 14, 2019. There will be a beginner, intermediate and advanced class to accommodate all levels. Each session is comprised of six two-hour classes over the course of a six-to-eight week period. The class is open to union members and pre-members. SAG-AFTRA, AEA and AFM members pay a reduced affordable fee of $100.
