The SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Conservatory Committee Presents: "Search for Treasure in the Text."

When we audition, our desire is to create compelling performances with rich characters. Without rooting our choices in the script, however, our work can appear arbitrary and fail to advance the narrative—the reason our character exists. The secret is to dig into the text and find the treasure that awaits us there. These discoveries can inform our choices, resulting in work that is true to the intent of the script and rich in personal subjectivity. In this workshop, instructor Keith Flippen and attendees will explore three different pieces of audition copy and ferret out the secrets they hold. Yes, we could call this “script analysis,” but wouldn’t you rather “dig for treasure?”

Keith Flippen is a 35 year film/tv actor trained at VA Tech, the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, and the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinema. Keith is also training with Patsy Rodenburg, OBE to earn her Associate certification. As owner and head instructor of The Actors’ Place, Inc. for 20+ years, Keith has taught over 2000 students the craft of acting for the camera. His acting credits include Will Trent, American Rust, She Hulk, Ozark, Dynasty, and Creepshow.
