Actors Town Hall in Oklahoma: Acting Career or Acting Hobby?

Join the Dallas-Fort Worth Local as actors gather for an open forum on the status of the regional market and how best to raise the bar in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Dallas-Fort Worth. Join Trish Avery, DFW Executive Director and fellow actors (SAG-AFTRA members and pre-members) for a serious discussion on how best to increase work opportunities and grow your career. Knowledge is power and community is key. SAG-AFTRA leaders and staff will be available to answer questions on marketing, contracts, agents, membership, film incentives, so-called “right-to-work” and more. Your acting career deserves this FREE investment in time.

Commercials Contracts W&W Conditions Committee Meeting

SAG-AFTRA is inviting all members who work the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract and SAG-AFTRA Audio Commercials Contract (“Commercials Contracts”) to the upcoming Chicago Local Wages and Working (W&W) Conditions Committee meeting. The Commercials Contracts expire on March 31, 2019 – join your fellow members to discuss issues you’d like to see addressed in the upcoming Commercials Contracts negotiations. Your participation is vital!
            
When: 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1
(Dates and times are subject to change as the process and the committees’ work unfolds. Notice will be given of any changes.)

Attention members who are actively producing: SAG-AFTRA members who are actively producing cannot attend the W&W Committee meetings due to conflict of interest. 

If you cannot attend a W&W meeting, please make sure your voice is heard. You may submit proposal recommendations by email at commercialsw&w@sagaftra.org. Recommendations must be received by Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. All recommended proposals will be reviewed by the W&W Conditions Committee.

W&W Committee meetings are only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing — no guests are allowed. Parents/guardians of performers under 18 years old are welcome. Participation is limited only by fire department regulations. SAG-AFTRA members, please bring your membership card (paid through Oct. 31, 2018) for admittance. 



Understanding Affordable Insurance in Chicago

The Actors Fund is holding two free workshops to help you understand “Obamacare” and the proposed changes, provide you with clear guidance on what your options are, and answer your burning questions! Open to anyone in visual and performing arts and entertainment.

Questions answered include-

  • What’s different from last year?
  • What are my insurance options now?
  • How much will it cost me?
  • Am I eligible for a subsidy?
  • Am I eligible for free insurance?
  • How do I estimate my sporadic income for the application?
  • Where do I get care if I can’t afford insurance?

It is only through the involvement of members that proposals for this vital negotiation are developed.

There are three ways to make your voice heard:

  1. Commercials W&W Caucuses: Join your fellow members to discuss what really matters! Open to all paid-up SAG-AFTRA members, the caucuses are free-form sessions where you can express any issue you feel should be addressed in the upcoming negotiations. Input from the caucuses directly affects the proposals formed by the Commercials Wages & Working Conditions Committee. 
  2. Wages & Working Conditions Committee Meetings: These formal meetings use the information and ideas gathered from the caucuses to create proposals for the 2019 contract negotiations. Meetings will commence nationwide beginning in Oct. of 2018. Check your emails and the New York Local webpage at safaftra.org for specific dates and times. 
  3. Email Suggestions: Can’t make it to a caucus or committee meeting? You can still play an active part by emailing your ideas to commercialswandw@sagaftra.org. All proposal recommendations will be reviewed by the Wages & Working Conditions Committee.
