A Thank You Gift for Donors!
As a special thank you to blood donors  Jim Manley will be at the blood drive giving one free head shot to members who successfully donate that day. After the blood donation is complete Jim will do a 10-15 minute session with each donor and then email an image at a later date for you to keep. 
*When making your appointment please allow up to two hours for the entire process including blood draw and headshot photo session.

Kirk’s Corner is a scheduled safe private environment in which to learn about and discuss the many issues related to the mental health and well-being of our members and their families.

Our invited facilitators are mental health professionals who teach us the signs of mental illness and the resources available to us.

Kirk’s Corner originated after the sudden unexpected death of our past SAG-WDC President, Kirk Penberthy. It is with the blessing of his family that we have formed this support group. Play Ball! Tryouts for Performing Artists Softball League

Where: De Witt Clinton Field, 601 W. 52nd St. New York, NY 10019 (11th Ave. between 52nd and 54th Streets)

Teams from the Performing Artists Softball League (in which SAG-AFTRA participates) are looking for players. Managers from league teams will be present during tryouts.

When: 10 AM EST, Monday, Mar. 18, Mar. 25, and April 1 (Tryouts will be held on these three consecutive Mondays before the start of the season on April 15.)

Where: De Witt Clinton Field, 601 W. 52nd St. New York, NY 10019 (11th Ave. between 52nd and 54th Streets)

Regular season games are played on Mondays at Heckscher Fields in Central Park at Noon and 2 p.m. Players must be available on Monday afternoons.

Male and female players over 18 years of age are welcome. Basic softball skills and experience are required, but professional ball players are prohibited per league rules. There is no fee to join. You must bring your own glove.

No need to RSVP, just show up at the tryout time with your current paid-up membership card (paid through April 30, 2019) or digital card in the member app. Games begin in April and continue into Sept., but players may join mid-season if spots are open. If you can run, hit and cheer loudly for your teammates, you are welcome to join.

Join us for a chance to hear from member leaders and staff about your union and all of the great ways to get involved. Learn new things and get answers to any questions you have about SAG-AFTRA.  A light brunch will be served prior to the presentation.  You are also welcomed to come and socialize with other members prior to the event at WAKE UP WEDNESDAY, starting at 10 a.m.  Hope to see you there!

Tax and Legal Workshop

Austin Actors Conservatory will be hosting a tax and business workshop to help members get things in order. Join Austin CPA Blaine Martin and attorney Mike Tolleson for a tax workshop with filmmakers and creatives in mind. This workshop is designed to walk you through your tax return, addressing common business concerns and important IRS regulations pertaining to creative practices.

Cost: Free and open to the public

Blaine Martin, CPA started his accounting career in Austin after he graduated from Abilene Christian University in 2010. After a few years, Martin joined Whitley Penn, where he primarily focused on closely held businesses and their owners, crossing a number of industries as a tax manager. In 2018, Martin joined Maxwell Locke & Ritter and looks forward to developing a broad network and client base with a primary focus on middle-market businesses in the Austin area.

Mike Tolleson, Esq. founded and has been the director of the Entertainment Law institute since 1990, and was a co-founder and initial chair of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar in 1989. A graduate of the SMU Dedman School of Law, he has worked for over forty-five years as an entertainment attorney, concert producer, film producer and officer in various industry organizations. His office sponsors the Arts and Entertainment Legal Clinic, a free consultation service for people in the entertainment industry.

SAG-AFTRA 101

Please join Associate Executive Director Jane Love and Senior Business Representatives Ryan Hastings and Jess W. Speaker III for their popular “SAG-AFTRA 101” class. This 90-minute conversation will provide attendees with information on performer’s rights and protections, present an overview of some of the key elements of the Commercial, Corporate/Educational and Non-Broadcast, Television, and Theatrical Agreements, discuss the benefits of membership, and share the resources available to members of SAG-AFTRA. This presentation is perfect for new and veteran members alike.

At the end of the presentation, there will also be an opportunity to address questions. If there is a question you would like addressed, please submit it in advance to Ryan Hastings at ryan.hastings@sagaftra.org.

If you haven't been to an orientation in a while, step up to bat, get in the game! It's not just for new members, it’s for ALL members. In this three-hour program, you will gain a plethora of valuable information jam-packed with helpful hints, facts and expertise to motivate and guide your journey. Learn how to USE the union as both an ally and resource to propel your career.

Attendance is required for the entire meeting to receive a Conservatory application outside of the open enrollment period. This meeting is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing. No guests are allowed. Parents/guardians of performers under 18 years old are welcome.

  • All meetings are approximately 3-hours long.
  • Validated parking is available in the SAG-AFTRA Plaza parking lot - enter off of Curson Ave.
  • Attendance is required for the entire meeting to receive a Conservatory application outside of the open enrollment period.
  • No RSVP necessary.
  • Please bring current membership card or receipt for admittance.
