Portland Conservatory Presents the Art of Imagination

Dec 05, 2019 - 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM PST

Where: Scott Rogers Studios at The Alberta Abbey 126 N.E. Alberta Street, Portland, OR 97211

Cost: $5 for SAG-AFTRA Members

SAG-AFTRA Portland Conservatory Presents Jeannie Rogers: The Art of Imagination, an evening of exercises designed to increase the power of your imagination, leading to more truthful reactions and behavior in your acting. No matter what acting technique(s) you use, there is one thing virtually all of the master acting teachers agreed on: the vital importance of imagination in an actors work.

Actors learning their craft spend hours and hours trying to obtain the goal of becoming truthful in their work. But, if an actor can really tap into their imagination, by relearning how to play, the truthfulness will follow—automatically! The workshop will begin with simple games and exercises to spark our imagination. Slowly the exercises become more complex and require more concentration, using the imagination to develop the senses and trigger the emotions. By working from the imagination, adults can let down their walls and the “doing" becomes truthful.

A professional actress for over 30 years and a longtime member of SAG-AFTRA, and Equity, Jeanne trained at the world-renowned Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, where she studied under legendary acting teacher, Sanford Meisner. She has performed opposite many well-known actors such as Nick Nolte, Don Johnson, Ron Howard, Marion Ross, Ted Lange, Terry Quinn, and Margaret Hamilton. Since moving to Portland Jeanne has played the leading role in both "Lady Aoi" at the Imago Theatre and "Vampire Diaries" at the Chapel Theatre. She has guest starred on TV shows such as LOST and GRIMM, been featured in movies such as “Into the Blue II” and “You May Not Kiss the Bride” with Rob Schneider.

Jeanne also has extensive experience teaching acting to teens and young adults for over 15 years. She was the Drama Teacher at the Honolulu Waldorf High School for 9 years and currently teaches drama at The Portland Waldorf School. Jeanne has also been busy directing many plays during this time, including: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Hamlet”, “The Curious Savage”, “Harvey”, “Look Homeward Angel”, “Blithe Spirit”, “The Crucible”, “You Can't Take It With You”, “The Foreigner”, and just finished a successful run of “Smell Of The Kill” at the Twilight Theater.

SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local's Diversity Committee Presents

Seize the Day: Brand & Market Yourself To Compete!

Presenter: Tony Castillo (SAG-AFTRA, AEA) Actor, Director, Development Coach

How do you see yourself in our industry? How do others see you? How do you market yourself? How do you communicate with those you need to influence? How prepared are you for when that opportunity presents itself?

Have you ever thought about who is ultimately responsible for marketing/promoting you as a performer? Your thought could be, "that is my agent’s responsibility. I mean after all, isn’t that why they get a commission”. Interesting response, unfortunately, not realistic. The reality is, “it is your responsibility.” To be, and continue being successful in our profession, especially today, it is essential that you understand how to continuously and pro-actively navigate our environment by branding yourselves effectively using yourself, social media , and other marketing tactics. Navigating and leveraging the world of social media can be a challenging puzzle for some, while others may be highly competent but want some tips to take it to the next level. A famous quote says: “Luck, is where preparation meets opportunity." Understanding how best to brand your image, influence others, and properly market yourself, can put you in a better position to capitalize on that moment when it appears.

Join veteran actor Tony Castillo on Saturday, Nov. 23 as he shares strategies and techniques which have, and continue to help him and others like Cedric Young, brand and market themselves. Tony Castillo has been a SAG-AFTRA member for more than 25 years and has appeared on numerous tv shows as a guest star as well as having been a series regular on the Fox series Watch Over Me. Tony is a board member of the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local as well as the chairman of the Chicago Local Diversity Committee, and has served on the National EEO Committee.

Remember, it’s all about you and the decisions you make.....Join us on November 23...We’ll be there, will you?

This event is open to SAG-AFTRA and AEA members in good standing.

Continental breakfast and a cold lunch will be provided

Learning, advice, food, raffle prizes….can’t get any better….
