Film Description:

Triggered and wanting to escape her past trauma, Naomi, a young Asian American female, falls into the world of blackjack to regain a sense of control but finds herself addicted to the game. By day, Naomi is successful at her job. By night, she is a high-limit blackjack player. Her compulsive gambling puts her in a secret cycle of shame as she suppresses her internal feelings to appear externally sound, impacting her mental health.

About Our Guest Speakers:

Kerri Wood Einertson is the Executive Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy at SAG-AFTRA. In this role, Kerri oversees government affairs for the union, where the focus is on local, state and federal issues affecting performers, including production tax incentives and anything involving a government entity that helps SAG-AFTRA members thrive. In 2022, Kerri was appointed to the California Film Commission. She also serves on several nonprofit boards, including Children’s Musical Theater San Jose. Prior to SAG-AFTRA, Kerri worked for several years on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks it as often as possible. Kerri is a longtime member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. She is a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of USC. Kerri currently lives in the East Bay with her husband, two daughters and a very special German Shorthaired Pointer mix. 

Manijeh Fata is the Executive Director of Film SF at the San Francisco Film Commission where she has worked since 2015. In her role, she has led and collaborated on numerous high-profile film, TV and independent productions, including The Last Black Man in San Francisco, The Matrix Resurrections, Venom, Beautiful Boy, Fremont, Fairyland, Food Network’s Chef Dynasty: House of Fang, Hulu’s Chance, Amazon's I’m a Virgo, Apple’s The Last Thing He Told Me and Surface, and Netflix’s The OA. Her work has involved extensive coordination, forging relationships with studios, local filmmakers, city departments, and neighborhood and merchant groups. With over 20 years of experience in arts and education program management, Manijeh has also developed impactful community outreach initiatives and built partnerships with non-profit organizations in Oakland and San Francisco. She holds two bachelor’s degrees from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University, where she created the award-winning short film Las Fruteras: A Fruitvale Tale.

Join the SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local Muriel Moore/Danny Nelson Conservatory via Zoom for a powerful live panel discussion that demystifies the process of taking a commercial project from non-union to union. Learn the practical steps, gain insider insights, and understand the benefits for both performers and producers.

Our panel features Atlanta Local President Eric Goins, national and local staff, and other key voices from the union who’ve successfully navigated this journey. Moderated by SAG-AFTRA Conservatory Committee Chair Keri Maletto.

Chicago Local Annual Membership Meeting

Please join us for the 2025 Chicago Local Annual Membership Meeting! It's a fun time to build community, network with your fellow SAG-AFTRA members and learn more about what's happening in our local and national union.  We will have light hors d'oeuvres and a chance to help us research and get free merch!  

Starting in November 2024, 15 of your fellow SAG-AFTRA members started a journey from writing scripts to creating a short film through SAG-AFTRA Chicago's Short Film Series.  The program is open with limited availability to all SAG-AFTRA Chicago members.  Participants were split into three teams and each team completed a film!

For our panel at this year's meeting, we'll be showing clips from each of the films and hearing from members about their experiences in the course and in filmmaking.

Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

This class is taking place from 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for this week only. Class schedule will return to its regular time schedule on Wednesday, May 28.

Teacher: Aan Steele

The eyes are the mirror of the soul. On camera, the eyes show what is going on in the brain. This class will concentrate on delivery on camera. Please come prepared with a 2 minute monologue or scene. Actors will slate and record their monologue or scene. After playback, feedback will be given from the instructor and peers.
