Get Your Funny On! 3-Class Conservatory

A summer comedy and stand-up SAG-AFTRA Conservatory and showcase for beginner comedians, comic writers or those interested in adding a skill to your repetoire. Find your funny bone, develop your comedic timing, write material and develop your craft as a performer!

This conservatory will be taught by local comedians who are also SAG-AFTRA members. It will be a 3-class conservatory over a 3-week period late July/early August. The "graduation" will be a special cabaret style stand-up comedy show in the KMRC for those who would like to display their new found skills in a 3-5 minute routine. Attendance at all 3 classes will be expected at time of reservation.

The Business of You—An Auditioning and Branding Workshop

Philadelphia members are invited to a FREE SAG-AFTRA Philadelphia Conservatory workshop: The Business of You – an auditioning and branding workshop with instructor and SAG-AFTRA member Bryan Fox.

Auditions can be won or lost because of first impressions. You are the product at this branding workshop where you will learn what you project when you walk into an audition. Through short exercises, Bryan Fox will help you understand what casting directors see in you.

About Bryan Fox:
Bryan Fox grew up on the Main Line of Philadelphia. He moved to New York where he studied and worked on the off-Broadway stages of New York City. He then moved to Los Angeles where he worked behind the scenes on music videos, commercials, independent films and Emmy Award-winning television shows. At the same time, he studied his craft and became a professional actor in both television and independent film. He has been a teaching artist in both New York and Los Angeles with over 16 years of real-world theater, film and major network television acting and auditioning experience. Bryan now owns and teaches at his own film and television acting studio just outside Philadelphia.

Make Your Own Short Film

Reaching Your Potential with Ted Rooney

Are you reaching your potential with your auditions? If not, what can be done about that - and how can your actual potential be improved upon? Actor and coach Ted Rooney understands that professional actors consistently bring in their best work, and their best work is always getting better.

In this special SAG-AFTRA Portland Conservatory workshop (open to union and non-union actors) sides will be given out in advance and every attendee will get the chance to perform in a mock audition. After the “audition,” Rooney will give feedback and “homework,” then each actor will rehearse for their “call-back.” Ted will share his opinion of each actor’s ability to audition and at least one specific challenge for them to work on. All audition work will be recorded and made available to the actors.

Cost: $5 for members / $10 for non-members

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Ted Rooney has amassed over 35 TV guest-star and recurring credits, over 20 principal movie roles, and over 35 principal appearances in commercials. He has a BA in Theatre from Lewis and Clark College and an MFA in acting from Temple University and is currently teaching and coaching acting out of his own studio space, as well as teaching on camera acting at Portland State University.

The Portland Local Conservatory Committee’s mission is to provide professional training and industry networking that can raise the level of professional talent in the PNW. The Portland Local Conservatory is dedicated to providing unique and relevant education workshops, and seminars.

  • Participants will be randomly selected from those who have registered online. Preference will be given to those who have not attended Conservatory events in the past 3 months.

  • As a courtesy to members on the waiting list, if you have reserved a space in this workshop and cannot attend, please cancel your reservation before Friday, June 14. Failure to do so may result in the inability to attend future workshops.

  • We appreciate your enthusiasm to participate in conservatory classes, anyone who shows up without receiving written confirmation will not be granted access to the class. If you arrive late, it is up to the discretion of the teacher as to whether or not you will be admitted.

Sally Clawson, owner of Voice One Training, has over 20 years of experience as a voice teacher, speech coach, actor, and performer. A former professional dancer, Ms. Clawson toured internationally with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company. After a hip injury, she took a day job answering phones, discovered her voice, and began studying at Voice One.

Sally now teaches classes and workshops in voice, acting, presenting and performing all over the Bay Area, including Berkeley Repertory School of Theater, Google Arts, and California Shakespeare Theater. In addition, Sally is a certified executive coach through the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and is the annual emcee at the Dreamforce conference hosted by Salesforce.

Sally’s voiceover performances include: Yoplait, Clorox, Toyota, Old Navy, McDonalds, Pixar, Apple, Google, Microsoft, EA Games, Telltale Games and Lucas Film to name a few.

New World Order of Voiceover Seminar

I Got Booked as a Principal! Now What?

Local principal work has been growing by leaps and bounds. Led by local staff, this conservatory will focus on what you need to know once you book that job. Topics such as engagement, cancellation, fittings, consecutive employment, turnaround and travel will be discussed. Day player, weekly or recurring roles all have different terms and conditions.  Attendees can attend in person or through a video conference link.

​MTSU Media Arts First Look ,This Thursday Night at Belcourt Theatre

As many of you know, our local was the first in the union to create a showcase for student filmmakers who use the SAG-AFTRA Student Film Agreement. This showcase has been an invaluable source of outreach to future filmmakers, teaching them how to work with union contracts at the start of their careers. That’s why we support efforts like this event hosted by MTSU that encourage industry professionals like you to get to know these talented young filmmakers.
