Jul 15, 2019 - 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM EDT
Where: SAG-AFTRA, Multipurpose Room, 1900 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10023 (Between 63rd and 64th Streets)
The SAG-AFTRA New York Singers Committee invites you to join your fellow singers for a free sight singing event on July 15, 2019. Have some fun exploring aspects of sight singing and learn about an upcoming opportunity to participate in a weekly sight singing program starting in August.
This program is designed specifically for learning to sing at sight. The singing that takes place is all related to reading music and being able to perform what is on paper. This is not a solo or group master class platform.
The weekly sight singing program that begins in August is based on the suggestions and positive feedback received from last summer’s sight singing event hosted by the New York Singers Committee. Please note that while the weekly program will be held at the SAG-AFTRA New York office, it is not an official SAG-AFTRA event and is open to union members (SAG-AFTRA, AEA, AFM) and pre-members. Attendees who are interested in participating in the weekly program can take a written theory assessment at the free event on July 15 to determine whether they should take the Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced level and register for the program.
When: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2019
Doors open at 10:45 a.m.

About the Instructor
Chantel Wright has been actively engaged in transforming lives through music education for the past 34 years. Currently, she is on the music faculty at New York University, is the founder and artistic director of the Songs of Solomon Choir in Harlem, and is in high demand as a choral clinician nationally and internationally. For the past nine years, Chantel has been an active collaborator within the Weil Music Education Department of Carnegie Hall where she spearheaded the Count Me In program that prepares middle school students for the specialized high school audition process. As an orchestral conductor, Professor Wright understands the importance of vocalists being musically literate and has developed methodologies to achieve that end. Her philosophy of music is “Solfege will set you free” and she has helped thousands of performers achieve their goals.
This Free Sight Singing Event is made possible with support from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
