LOS ANGELES (June 7, 2016) -- SAG-AFTRA mourns the tragic loss of member and NPR photojournalist David Gilkey and NPR’s Afghan interpreter Zabihullah Tamanna, who were killed by extremists in Afghanistan Sunday.

Gilkey and Tamanna were on assignment with the Afghan army Sunday when they came under fire and were killed. They were traveling with NPR Pentagon correspondent Tom Bowman and producer Monika Evstatieva who were traveling in a separate vehicle and were not harmed.

LOS ANGELES (April 10, 2016) --- The SAG-AFTRA National Board, meeting this weekend in Los Angeles at SAG-AFTRA Plaza, unanimously approved the recently negotiated commercials contracts and took action on several items including the previously reported historic election of Gabrielle Carteris as president, to fulfill the term of the late Ken Howard, and Rebecca Damon as executive vice president.

NEW YORK, (APRIL 3, 2016) — Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the ANA-4A’s Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations (JPC) have reached a tentative agreement on terms for successor television and radio commercials contracts, subject to approval by the SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors later this month.

Los Angeles (March 29, 2016) — SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of former Screen Actors Guild President Anna Patty Duke Pearce, better known as Patty Duke. Duke was elected president in 1985, becoming the second female president of the union. Duke was an Oscar and Emmy-winning actor, labor activist, and pioneering advocate for mental health issues. She was 69.

(LOS ANGELES) MAR. 23 -- Kenneth Joseph “Ken” Howard, Jr., a Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor and president of the performers union SAG-AFTRA died today at his home near Los Angeles. He was 71.

Over a long career rich with great performances, the Yale-trained Howard parlayed his classic blond, blue-eyed handsomeness into a string of enduring characters on stage and screen, later becoming the first president of the 160,000-member performers union SAG-AFTRA.
