Fifteen New England Local members completed their Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator training via a New England Safety Committee-hosted small group class held on Aug. 29 at the New England Local office in Boston. The three-hour training provided knowledge and hands-on skills to help adults, children and infants during cardiac emergencies. All students were tested and received two-year certification cards noting that the training program conforms with the 2020 American Heart Association guidelines update for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care.
Key components of the training included assessment and chest compressions, the use of an automated external defibrillator and ways to help with choking. Locally based trainer Patrick Horrigan was an engaging instructor who shared insights from his active professional experience and answered every participant’s questions.
New England Local member and class participant Bill Thorpe said, “I found the CPR AED training extremely valuable. I learned a lot! My neighbor is an emergency room physician. When I told him about my training, he said, ‘Great! Tell everyone else to do the same. The more people that know CPR, the better it is for all of us.’”
