Dear Union Member,

Great news for all New York entertainment industry workers. Thanks to the efforts of SAG-AFTRA in conjunction with the New York Film & Television Union Coalition — which represents thousands of union workers in New York, and to all who answered last month’s call to action, the recently passed New York State Budget includes an extension of the Film and Television tax incentive. This extension is a major benefit for workers and the good union jobs our industry provides.

The state budget also continues $3 million in annual funding for the COBRA Premium Assistance Program for Entertainment Industry Employees. This program provides assistance to workers in the industry equal to 75% of their COBRA premiums, for up to 12 months in a five year period. The program is a powerful safety-net for workers as they navigate the ups and downs of a career in show business.

We are grateful to Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature for advocating for smart policy that protects the union workers in our industry, and helps them thrive in the great state of New York.

There is also more good news on the horizon. Assembly Bill 606-A, which requires advertisements to disclose the use of synthetic performers, has been reported out of committee to the New York State Assembly Floor where it can receive a full vote. This important bill, sponsored by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal and Senator Mike Gianaris (Senate Bill 1228-A), will protect both SAG-AFTRA members and consumers with reasonable guardrails around the use of A.I. in advertising.

Thank you, again, for taking action.

Forward together,

Ezra Knight
New York Local President
