Dear Member,
Can you believe we are already five months into this year!? I hope everything is going just like you wanted it to go! It's definitely been a strange year for me...auditions are still a little sketchy, but I am hopeful that things will normalize soon.
Just a couple of things; BIG THANK YOU to all that came out to the SAG Awards Viewing Party at Cafe Momentum. You all made it a huge success and the fact that we were able to help at-risk youth at the same time was definitely icing on the cake. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: We have a new Executive Director! We welcomed Ed Leon to the DFW (and Houston-Austin) locals at the end of February and can't be anymore thrilled about how he has hit the ground running. We look forward to continuing our work together.
LEGISLATIVE SESSION: The legislative session is underway and there is an unprecedented $498 billion bill on the table. This bill has huge support for legislators around the state, as well as, the backing of our celebrity members and Texas residents, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thorton and Renee Zellweger. We will let you know how you can get involved and let your voice be heard.
IN MEMORIAM: In closing, I want to express my condolences on the recent passing of some notable DFW SAG-AFTRA members, including Ruth Buzzi and Lar Park Lincoln, but I wanted to leave a special note for our dear friend and board member Reis McCormick who passed away at the beginning of April. I want to thank her for service to our local board for so many years and specifically, for helping me to navigate this new union territory. Reis would always greet you with a hug and a smile. She will be sorely missed.
