The Chicago Local SAG Awards Viewing Party

Please join us at a viewing party for the 30th Annual SAG Awards. This is a great opportunity to gather with fellow SAG-AFTRA members to celebrate excellence in film and television performances.

Scene Study Conservatory Event at the Hawaii Local

The Hawaii Conservatory Committee invites our local members to join instructors Henry Ian and Annie Cusisk for a scene study workshop.  
 
When:  Saturday, January 20, 10 am - 12:30 pm
Where: Oahu, Hawaii - Details on the location released upon registration.
 
Space is very limited; actors will work in pairs on scenes, emphasizing performance, analysis, and feedback.  Registration is required and you must be logged on to register.

Keys to Make Your Self-Tape Undeniable

Join the SAG-AFTRA LA Conservatory for Keys to Make Your Self-Tape Undeniable, taught by Loren E. Chadima.


Because good and great self-tapes DON'T book the job, this practical acting workshop will give you specific, repeatable and actionable techniques to make self tapes that are undeniable.  Learn keys to make sure your Self-Tape not only grabs but keeps casting's attention so you can book the room and the job.

Chicago TV/Theatrical Contracts Informational Meeting

In order to help you have as much information as possible on the new 2023 TV/Theatrical Contracts prior to voting, the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local will hold a TV/Theatrical Contracts informational in-person meeting with National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez on Sunday, November 19, 2023. 1- 4 p.m. For FAQs, a summary of the tentative agreement and voting information, visit sagaftra.org/contracts2023

SAG-AFTRA Chicago Conservatory Presents: Casting Speed Dating

Ever wish that you could have one-on-one time with casting directors?
Now’s your chance! We’re hosting a night of “Casting Speed Dating” on November 7th from 6-8pm!
 

Join us for this event, where you’ll get the opportunity to spend five minutes with casting representatives from O'Connor Casting, PR Casting, and Compass Casting. In addition to meeting in person, you’ll have the opportunity to share a digital package of your materials as well as a hard copy of your headshot & resume. (All casting authorities involved will have access to your materials after the event, as well.)


This is a fast paced, closely timed Conservatory, so we need to do some pre-production to make sure it all goes smoothly. Here's what you'll need to do:
 

1.) Register for this event through this SAG-AFTRA Event Registration page  (PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE CURRENTLY MANAGING A WAITLIST.)
2.) Submit a digital package of your materials (if/when you move off the waitlist, you will receive an email with specific instructions regarding the digital package after you register for your time slot - please do not email materials at this time)
4.) The day of the event (November 7th), please bring additional hard copy headshots and resumes for the casting directors. YOU MUST BE ON TIME. We are scheduling members in specific windows of time. If you miss your time slot, there's no way to make it up. (Just come early and you'll have no worries.) 
 

As these events are free, reservations fill up fast. A waiting list will be used. If you can't make it, please cancel your reservation with as much notice as possible. Only a limited number of spots are available, so please register ASAP!
 

Parking is available for $13 in the parking structure at 10 East Ontario. Enter on the north side of Ontario between Wabash and State, then take a ticket. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13 (Cash only). You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure.

Description:

Join the SAG-AFTRA L.A. Conservatory for On-Camera Drama & Comedy Class!

Students will learn how to make bold, creative choices to truly inhabit a character and bring the words on the page to life. This deep dive into emotions, relationships, obstacles and objectives will help open up the actor to spontaneity and working moment-to-moment. Putting all these tools together will allow them to book more work in television and film.

Please choose and prepare one scene as if for an audition. This means totally prepared, dressed for the part, off-book and adapted for a taped audition environment. Bring two copies of the sides, one for yourself and the other highlighted for the reader. Bring a flash drive or SD card if you'd like to take the takes home with you.

Description:

Join the SAG-AFTRA L.A. Conservatory for Script Analysis - The Key to Understanding the Craft of Acting and the Actors Role!

Attendees will get a clear and dynamic understanding of a script analysis system used by professional actors of every level and applicable to everything from a commercial audition to multiple seasons of television work or a full feature film.

The course will cover core script analysis concepts including "what we owe vs. what can we create", "the power of discoveries and decisions instead of beats", "understanding the notecard on the writing room wall" and more.

Attendees will explore the benefits and support of auditioning, prepping booked work and performing finished work with sound script analysis as the key tool for unlocking their potential, creating an intimate understanding of their character, the moment and fully realizing their unique and specific role in the creative storytelling process.

Directions:
Attendees must bring a notebook or laptop for note taking, a printed out copy of a scene that has proven challenging from a previous audition or completed project and are recommended to wear comfortable clothing for learning and some light grounding movement.

This course is designed to help the actor develop a process that gives them clear-cut results in the audition room, on set and on the stage, to aid in getting in touch with the emotional center, make strong choices that elevate the material and get them noticed.


Like all great actors they will learn to bring themselves to the role and trust their instincts, all while getting in touch with themselves as an actor, an artist and an individual.


Directions: Actors are required to bring a notebook to class, memorize lines and work outside of class to ensure they come prepared. It is recommended you wear clothing appropriate to the scene work assigned, arrive to class warmed up and ready to work. 


Actors are recommended to read books such as Acting: The 1st 6 Lessons by Richard Boleslawski for this class series.
