Where: SAG-AFTRA - Conservatory Studio, 1900 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10023 (between 63rd and 64th Streets)

Only for the month of May, this class will meet at 12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m., instead of the usual 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. The class is expected to return to its usual 2:30 p.m. time slot in June.

Teacher: Robert Goodman

Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

Washington-Mid Atlantic Mental Health Group Meeting - May

Please join the Washington-Mid Atlantic Mental Health Group in May's monthly group session to discuss the challenges that you might face in your personal and professional life. The group session is a safe space where you will have the opportunity to explore your emotions, gain insights, learn about yourself, and, if time permits, get caring, sympathetic and empathetic support from your peers. Active participation in a group session can encourage good mental health and be a great healing tool as you can help others as you help yourself.

Group will be moderated by SAG-AFTRA member Nicole Hakim Yohn. Nicole is a Peer  Recovery Specialist for depression and an experienced group moderator. She has  studied under Craig Hedley CPRS; renowned DBT expert Lane Pederson Psy. D. LP C DBT; EMDR under Megan Boardman LSCW, ACADC, CCT P-11, EMDR-C;  PHD expert in CBT Charles Jacob; DBT under Katelyn Baxter-Musser, MSWCBT, C DBT, C-EMDR, and trauma under international trauma expert Janina Fisher, PHD.

Learn to work strategically and authentically as you uncover formulas that ensure strong choices so you can stand out and book.

Air Force veteran and Second City Instructor BJ Lange brings 15 years of improv and teaching experience to lead the group in a safe and supportive setting, allowing students to grow in the advancement of their craft while building relationships and strengthening self-confidence.


What to expect in this class: 

  • A strong introduction to the ‘kitchen sink’ application of improv comedy
  • Get practice in “thinking on your feet” as a performer or public speaker
  • Learn the “rules” of comedy improv - What makes it work… or not work
  • Find new inspiration for writing and playing better characters/stories
  • Strengthen your confidence by getting comfortable with the uncomfortable
  • Lots of laughs and fun!
     

Directions: Please wear comfortable clothing to move in and closed toed shoes.

Description:
Join the SAG-AFTRA L.A. Conservatory for the Stand-Up Comedy Workshop.

Understand how multi-camera acting directly correlates to stand-up comedy. Learn how to set-up a joke and land a punch-line. Learn how to be open and honest and harness those skills to make you a better, more confident actor.

Take your life experiences, the subject of a “killer” stand-up set! This workshop will go over stand-up comedy basic rules including setup, premise and stage etiquette. Selected individuals will have the opportunity to test out freshly minted material before the end of the workshop. Taught by Cool Beans Comedy producer and coach Corey Martin Craig, with more than 10+ years of stand-up comedy instruction.
