Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

Missouri Valley Regional Commercials Code Meeting

Please join us for a Review and Recommendation meeting of the SAG-AFTRA Regional Commercials Code.

The Regional Commercials Code is tailored specifically to meet the needs of our regional advertisers so they may easily hire local SAG-AFTRA performers at competitive rates and with flexible terms.

If you’ve previously worked under the Missouri Valley Regional Commercials Code, or have interest in working this agreement, we encourage you to attend this meeting.

This meeting will be an important opportunity to discuss key elements of the contract and provide your valuable input and recommendations.

Breathwork & Awareness

Monthly on the second Thursday

Teacher: Christina Bobrowsky

This class will focus on wellness techniques to be present and calm the mind. 

Structure 
Beginning with a simple introduction breathwork, I will introduce basic Alexander Technique - a gentle practice to change movement habits in everyday activities. We will begin a discussion on who has experience with these topics and their thoughts. We will explore the ways that acting and awareness go hand-in-hand. We will touch upon additional techniques, i.e. Wim Hof, Transcendental Meditation and Qi Gong.

Shakespeare: Cold Reading & Monologue Exploration

Bring a printout of the text of any monologue you like, gender & age of character is unimportant. Just bring one that interests you.

Washington-Mid Atlantic Mental Health Group Meeting - May

Please join the Washington-Mid Atlantic Mental Health Group in May's monthly group session to discuss the challenges that you might face in your personal and professional life. The group session is a safe space where you will have the opportunity to explore your emotions, gain insights, learn about yourself, and, if time permits, get caring, sympathetic and empathetic support from your peers. Active participation in a group session can encourage good mental health and be a great healing tool as you can help others as you help yourself.

Group will be moderated by SAG-AFTRA member Nicole Hakim Yohn. Nicole is a Peer  Recovery Specialist for depression and an experienced group moderator. She has  studied under Craig Hedley CPRS; renowned DBT expert Lane Pederson Psy. D. LP C DBT; EMDR under Megan Boardman LSCW, ACADC, CCT P-11, EMDR-C;  PHD expert in CBT Charles Jacob; DBT under Katelyn Baxter-Musser, MSWCBT, C DBT, C-EMDR, and trauma under international trauma expert Janina Fisher, PHD.

Film and Television is poised to explode in Texas with a new bill providing $ 500 million in incentives every two years to make Texas the film capital of America! Join TXMPA - the Texas Media Production Alliance and the San Antonio Film Commission to hear TXMPA Executive Director, Fred Poston, speak on what the proposed legislation means for Film & TV production in Texas, how it differs from previous years, and how you can help make your voice heard. Connect with industry friends, engage with the production community, and learn about the future of Film & TV in Texas. This event is FREE to attend and open to anyone wanting to learn more about film in Texas. Free on-site parking is available.

Dive into your natural reactions through class exercises that focus on organic processes and strip away any vices that could be holding you back while allowing you to break down a script in five minutes to align your thinking with the person hiring you: the director. Learn to work strategically and authentically as you uncover formulas that ensure strong choices so you can stand out and book.

Directions:
Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook or laptop for note taking. Please dress in comfortable clothing that would allow for movement.
