POSSUM KINGDOM SYNOPSIS “In an effort to reconnect, three estranged brothers come together for a weekend fishing trip. But if they cannot let go of their different childhood memories and grudges, the sins of one brother could not only push them even further apart, but could prove deadly.”

Roles To Be Cast:

  • Andrew Knighton Jr. – 47yo. Followed in his father’s footsteps and is now a successful and hard-working attorney.
  • Barry Knighton – 38yo. Never married and no kids. High school baseball coach.
  • Cody Knighton – 29yo. Struggling musician, still playing anywhere he can get a gig. Very smart and talented songwriter but takes very few things seriously.
  • Cynthia – 70ish. Now owns the local bait and tackle store where she has worked her whole adult life. Knew the Knighton boys when Pop used to bring them fishing.
  • Miss Cindy - a young Cynthia as seen in flashbacks
  • Pop (Andrew Knighton Sr.) – The brothers’ father only seen in flashbacks covering 20 years. Depending on who you ask, the same man might be remembered as a firm but fair mentor, a supportive coach, a life-changing friend, or a belligerent drunk whose only detectible emotion was anger.
  • Natalie – 40s. Andrew’s wife
  • Thugs 1 and 2 – enforcers for a loan shark. (Could be combined into one character for the table read.)
  • Pastor – officiates over Pop’s funeral. Has known the Knighton family since the brothers were children.
  • Becky – Andrew’s assistant/paralegal.
  • Young Andy – Andrew at 12 in flashbacks. Thinks Pop is the best father ever. Wants to be just like him.
  • Young Barry – Barry in flashbacks. Very empathetic middle child. Torn between pleasing his father and caring for his mother.
  • Young Cody – Problem child. Loud and boisterous. Has already gotten accustomed to Pop’s drinking and quick temper.
  • Van Driver- picks Barry up to go to baseball camp. One line.
  • Commentator and Color Man - television announcers during baseball game. VO only.
  • Trey – their 11-year-old son
