The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW), a non-profit theater and community center, needs volunteers to join their Fall/Holiday Theatre and Education program for homeless children. The program culminates in two Holiday Celebrations on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 12 when you can mentor a homeless child.

Being displaced by homelessness does not always allow the children the opportunity to have a traditional family gathering complete with hot nutritious food and special gifts. Share your love and compassion, and help these precious children reconnect to the dream and essence of the holiday season. Be a part of ATW's 24th annual holiday celebrations and creative classes for children living in five different NYC temporary housing facilities.

  • Apply to be a part of their team by filling out this short application.
  • Learn more and be interviewed at an Information and Interview Session on either Saturday, Nov 10 or 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Attend a mandatory training session with ATW’s Artistic Director on either 4:30-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 or Saturday, Dec. 8, or 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4.

If your time is limited you can still be a part of the celebration. Decorate the theatre on Saturday, Dec. 1 or Saturday, Dec. 8. Help set-up the theatre for the children’s parties on December 11 or December 12. Or join the food team and help prepare a home-cooked meal for the children. For more information visit actorstheatreworkshop.com/BNW-Holidays/, contact them at outreach@actorstheatreworkshop.com, or call ATW at (212) 947-1386. Check out this short video of a past holiday party and class and see for yourself the joy and fun the children experience!
