Synopsis: 13 Hours Ahead is a multi-screen visual installation exploring the emotional and physical distance between an immigrant woman in the U.S. and her aging mother in Japan. Through immersive visuals and layered soundscapes, the piece offers a poignant, sensory-driven reflection on modern immigration and cross-national caregiving.
Seeking Actors Able to Portray:
Kaede – lead, female, age range 30s, Japanese or Japanese American. Driven, independent woman who moved to the U.S. to pursue her career, leaving her mother behind in Japan. Seeking an actor who can portray deep emotion through subtle, observational performance. Fluency in Japanese is preferred but not required.
Yuriko – lead, female, age range 60s-70s, Japanese or Japanese American. Kaede’s mother, living alone in Japan and feeling the quiet ache of their separation. Ideally seeking an actor who can play the piano or other musical instrument or has a dog, though this is not required. Fluency in Japanese is a plus but not required.
Hana – supporting, female, age range 8-12, Mixed-race Japanese. Kaede’s young daughter, bright, curious, and affectionate. Seeking a mixed-race Japanese child actor who can take direction well; piano experience is a plus but not required.
