WHEREAS, Quincy Media, owner of SAG-AFTRA station WEEK-TV/WHOI-TV has invested considerable economic resources in a complete makeover of the news set as they are simultaneously seeking economic give backs from their workers

WHEREAS, the rigor of quality journalism requires some work life balance yet Quincy News wants eliminate the right to overtime, comp time and consecutive days off

WHEREAS, Quincy pays its professional employees as little as $12.00 per hour

WHEREAS, Quincy requires many of its lowest paid employees to sign multi-year contracts with prohibitions on future employment

WHEREAS, the residents of Central Illinois deserve high quality reporting

WHEREAS, SAG-AFTRA having attempted to negotiate in good faith with Quincy, has been forced by the Company’s actions to file multiple unfair labor practice charges, and Quincy was compelled to settle those charges

WHEREAS, SAG-AFTRA has been compelled to engage in a comprehensive social media and community awareness campaign to Save Local TV in Peoria by resisting the draconian measures proposed by the company.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the SAG-AFTRA Broadcast Steering Committee stands with and fully supports the efforts of the Members at WEEK-WHOI and their campaign to preserve quality jobs and good journalism for Central Illinois.
