L.A. Local Members March In Support of SBS Unit Employees

As part of an on-going contract campaign, a contingency of members, staff, impacted SBS unit employee/s participated in the annual Los Angeles May Day rally on May 1 to show solidarity for members fighting for a fair, first contract with Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS). SBS has refused multiple times to bargain over wages. The union, Cal Fed and State Federation of Labor is once again urging SBS to resolve the pending unfair labor charges filed against the company – including those relating to SBS’ unlawful termination of eight employees in retaliation for their union activities.

Led by MOVE L.A. Committee Chair Ellen Crawford, the second vice president of the Los Angeles Local, Hernán de Béky, the national chair of the Spanish Language Media Committee, and Felix Castillo, better known by his stage name DJ Boro, the group marched alongside more than 30,000 people to shed light on SBS’ egregious behavior towards their employees.

Many attendees are listeners of the two SBS stations at odds with SAG-AFTRA – La Raza and MEGA – and were appalled to learn about the injustices faced by their favorite on-air performers. Simultaneously, a Tweet-a-thon using the hashtag #sbslaunfair was held encouraging members to show their solidarity.
