Due to a building power shutdown early tomorrow morning, Friday, Feb. 9, the Ohio-Pittsburgh Local office will open at noon.

The SAG-AFTRA Ohio-Pittsburgh Local hosted special live viewings of the 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in three of our local’s major cities on Jan. 21.
Members enjoyed the viewing and membership mixers at Olive or Twist in Pittsburgh, Shula’s in Cleveland and The Torpedo Room in Columbus. Appetizers, door prizes and mock voting rounded out the fun evening with fellow performers and industry friends.

On Monday, Nov. 6, Cleveland had the benefit of a conservatory seminar to explain the rates applicable for work locally and the launch of our new Regional Commercials Code.
Business Representative Chelsea Danley Rodgers met with about a dozen SAG-AFTRA members and explained the philosophy behind a Regional Code, the types of advertisers it’s aimed at, and the process that led to the creation of the code.

On July 6, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the bitter industrial lockout, the Battle of the Homestead Foundation presented a one-night-only performance to a sold-out audience at the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead.

The third Biennial SAG-AFTRA convention was held Oct. 6–8 at the Sheraton Universal hotel in Los Angeles.
I headed the Ohio-Pittsburgh delegation in lieu of President Paul Martino. Chris Lacey, our National Board representative, was with us in L.A. Rick Pfeiffer, Stoney Richards and Jay Silvers rounded out our group. Local Executive Director Brian Lysell also attended.

The Third Annual SAG-AFTRA Family Picnic on Aug. 20 was a wonderful day in Sunny Parma for a gathering, and a great chance to catch up with friends and meet new members. There were 30 people in attendance.
Ohio-Pittsburgh Local Office Closed Early Today
The SAG-AFTRA Ohio-Pittsburgh Local Office closed early today due to approaching ice storms in the area. The office will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 16, after the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday.

The Cleveland Council Committee met on April 10. Previously, we tried to get the committee together before the viewing party for the SAG Awards, and were met with a blizzard. A few made that one, but more made this one. The next meeting is coming up on Monday, June 5, and any Cleveland Council member is welcome, along with the committee members.

Greetings from Columbus, Ohio, where we rocked it out at the 2017 SAG Awards viewing party. My name is Missy Kidd, emcee of this fabulous event.
There was a mock red carpet, where I interviewed all the local SAG-AFTRA actors, finding out what they were wearing (attire was casual) and who they hoped would win. Improvising was a necessity because I got some unexpected answers.

Memories fade over the years, but great feelings and emotion won't die. As I’m writing this, I’m trying to piece together the events that led to me becoming president of this local for many, many years. I remember getting a call from our legendary executive director, the late Dan Mallinger. It was in 1987 or ’88, I think. Without any discussion, Dan said, “You’re on the board!”
