Applications for the CFL's annual college scholarship are now available on the CFL website. The CFL will award 10 scholarships valued at $2,000 each to 10 high school seniors. 



• The applicant must be a senior in high school and graduate in the spring of 2018.

• Either the applicant or the applicant's parent must be a member in good standing of a CFL-affiliated union.

Most screenings offered are in Los Angeles and New York, and occasionally in other major metropolitan areas. These screenings can sometimes happen at the last minute. RSVPs are on a first come, first served basis and members of the SAG Awards Nominating Committee may be given priority. Screenings are overbooked to compensate for no-shows. Seating is not guaranteed. If you RSVP to a screening, be prepared to show up early and wait in line until seats are made available.

SAG-AFTRA Members in Illinois:

Many of you may recall that in 2015-2016 attempts were made to create so-called Right-to-Work “zones” around the state of Illinois. Fortunately, activists and unions around the state mobilized to fight these measures and none were successful. Anticipating a new round of such attempts, legislation was introduced earlier this year which would prohibit Right-to-Work zones in Illinois. Both houses of the legislature passed the bill (SB1905), then Governor Rauner vetoed it.

We have been deeply struck by the magnitude of the devastation from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and have been thinking about what we can do to help. SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local is proud to partner with Creative Relief, a group made up of Chicago’s creative agencies, in a united effort to raise funds for this cause.

In July, the Chicago Local hosted a captivating seminar led by actor and director Dawn Arnold to teach members the Michael Chekhov acting technique. Chekhov’s method is a way for actors to express personality and to find an inner life for a character before a performance. Actors tap into their creativity to create a character’s identity, including imagination, intellect and emotions.

Celebrating the Legacy of Ruth Louise Ratny

The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local celebrates the life of Ruth Louise Ratny, founder and editor of Screen Magazine and ReelChicago, who passed away Feb. 21.

After an accomplished career working as an advertiser, producer and scriptwriter for non-theatrical films, Ratny created Screen Magazine and ReelChicago to showcase Chicago visual media and the business behind it.
