SAG-AFTRA recently announced a landmark new industry-wide contract with the major record labels covering performers in music videos. As of July 23, 2012, major label videos – including those from Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, EMI Music and The Walt Disney Co. and most of their subsidiary labels – are covered under the new agreement. For performers, this means new protections on the job, new payments for things like extraordinary risk circumstances and re-use of material, and health and retirement contributions.
