Congratulations to all Philadelphia Local members who contributed to the Camp Out for Hunger event in December. The annual event, organized by members and 93.3 WMMR morning show hosts Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison, collected over 2.6 million pounds of food and raised $200,000 to help feed hungry citizens in the area. It was a collective union effort that involved local members, leaders and staff donating canned food and other nonperishables. Big salute to you all for making it happen!
All proceeds went to the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, Philabundance. The organization acquires and distributes food on a weekly basis to 90,000 people throughout nine counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, of which 30% are children and 16% are seniors. Others who seek food assistance include people with disabilities, single parents, veterans, students and working-class families.
If you’ve been wanting to get involved, now’s your chance! Philabundance is building and distributing emergency food boxes to those experiencing loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s asking for donations to continue those efforts. Click here for more information.
