Updated Information for Members Viewing SAG Awards® Nominated Films

As many of you know, for the first time, several films with SAG Award nominations are being offered to members via a free iTunes download rental. Though we are happy with the positive response from most of our members, the SAG Awards production staff has been overwhelmed with questions. As with any new program, there are bound to be unforeseen issues. Please know we are working diligently to answer those questions as quickly as possible. We are also discussing the free iTunes rental download possibility with other studios. We may have more information on other films soon and will notify you when or if we do.

While we encourage every studio to make their SAG nominated films available to all members, it is ultimately up to the studio to make the decision with regard to how they offer their films. With our large membership — 100,000 strong — some studios simply cannot afford to mail out that many DVDs, particularly when their films may still be playing in theaters and piracy is an issue. You can however expect the following DVD screeners to be mailed to you: The King’s Speech and The Social Network. These DVDs are being mailed out in waves.  If you haven’t received yet, you will soon. Again, only those members who paid their Nov. 2010 dues by Dec. 16 are eligible to receive these and any other ‘for your consideration’ materials.

Movie Cash — a downloadable film coupon redeemable at theaters across the US — is available for The Fighter, The King’s Speech and True Grit.

This year’s program allowing members to download some films from iTunes is obviously not ideal for everyone, but it does give many members the opportunity to view films when they otherwise might not have.

Below please find some information on frequently asked questions and answers which hopefully will help you in taking advantage of the three current films — 127 Hours, Black Swan and Conviction — being offered on iTunes.

Where can I find my SAG Movie Code?
Your SAG movie code, which is needed for both Movie Cash and your iTunes downloads, is located on your SAG AWARDS BALLOT INFORMATION POSTCARD, not the Fox Searchlight postcard. You will find your movie code number at the top of the address box, below your voting PIN. Please note in order to be eligible to receive your balloting postcard — and any ‘for your consideration’ materials from the studios — your Nov. 2010 dues must have been paid by our Dec. 16 deadline.

What are the system requirements for my computer to download these films on iTunes?
Full system iTunes requirements can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3209. We know that some of you may not have the capability of watching HD films on your computer and we apologize to those of you who cannot. Windows XP and Vista do not support HDCP. We are working with iTunes and Fox Searchlight to determine a solution.
