As part of a series of events focusing on casting opportunities for actors who have been historically overlooked in the entertainment industry, Casting Society of America (CSA) Diversity Committee will focus this month on *transgender performers. Performers will be given an opportunity to do a two-page prepared scene in front of a panel of two to three CSA casting directors. Please note, the reading will be taped and the reading is NOT for a job opportunity.

Proud members of the SAG-AFTRA Portland Local participated for a fifth straight year at the Oregon AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic. The event was held at historic Oaks Amusement Park in southeast Portland.

Portland Local Board member Harold Phillips worked alongside booth organizer and member Duane Hanson to pass out swag to nearly 100 people who visited the SAG-AFTRA booth.

On July 15, 2017, your SAG-AFTRA National Board overwhelmingly approved and recommended a YES vote for the TV/Theatrical tentative agreement reached with the AMPTP. Eligible SAG-AFTRA members will receive a postcard in the coming days on how to vote electronically or by paper ballot on the proposed successor agreements covering motion pictures, scripted primetime dramatic television and new media production.

Portland Local members show their cards at their spring membership meeting on May 16, where members discussed the past year’s victories and challenges and planned for the future. SAG-AFTRA members are excited about the new productions coming to Portland and the recent renewal of the Oregon film incentive and Green Light program.
