On this Veterans Day 2011, Screen Actors Guild remembers those who have served our country in the past and those who continue to put themselves in harm’s way around the world.
For our members, ‘support our troops’ is more than a slogan. Since World War II, Screen Actors Guild members have backed our fighting men and women. SAG members have entertained soldiers in America and at bases across the globe, packed up care packages to be shipped overseas and, more recently, worked with the First Lady’s Joining Forces initiative to ease the burdens of military families. (Visit joiningforces.gov for ways you can help military families.)
As we honor the men and women of our armed forces, consider making a gift today to allow Americans deployed overseas the opportunity to call home for the holidays. A tax-deductible gift of $25 to the USO Operation Phone Home Program can provide a phone card giving a service member an average of three calls home, or it can allow 70 service members to call home using the satellite service.
To all of our brothers and sisters, husbands, wives, partners and children who have contributed to our country’s defense in the past or who do so today: Thank you.
