PHILADELPHIA (May 24, 2010) — The SAG Philadelphia Branch is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, which will be marked today with a mayoral reception at Philadelphia City Hall attended by both SAG President Ken Howard and Philadelphia Branch President Tom McCarthy.
McCarthy will also be recognized for his more than 30 years of service to SAG as Branch president. He will retire at the end of his term in September.
On Sunday, at the annual board meeting of the SAG Regional Branch Division, a presentation was made to McCarthy by his fellow SAG officers. As part of the tribute, Howard surprised McCarthy by recreating his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson. In 1969, Howard played Jefferson on Broadway in 1776, reprising the role for the 1972 film adaptation. SAG 3rd National Vice President David Hartley-Margolin played Benjamin Franklin in the tribute skit.
