Los Angeles (Dec. 21, 2015) -- Friday, producers on Chicago Tonight at WTTW-TV in Chicago voted overwhelmingly to join 160,000 media and entertainment professionals in choosing SAG-AFTRA as their union. Produced for broadcast and the Internet, Chicago Tonight is one of the most-respected nightly news programs in Chicago. The full- and part-time producers working on the show voted to become union members at a National Labor Relations Board election.

SAG-AFTRA mourns the loss of Nashville Local member Fred Thompson. He died Nov. 1 at the age of 73 in Nashville after a recurrence of lymphoma.

A member of SAG and AFTRA since 1986 and 2006, respectively, Thompson was well-known for his five-year run on Law and Order as District Attorney Arthur Branch. He also appeared on Days of ThunderThe Hunt for Red October and Die Hard 2. Most recently, he was seen in the 2012 movie Sinister and the 2015 series Allegiance.

NEW YORK (Oct. 26, 2015) --- SAG-AFTRA executive John McGuire, who serves as the union’s senior advisor, was the guest of honor in a special ceremony hosted by New York’s Museum of the Moving Image.   

At the Oct. 20 dinner at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City, McGuire, who was instrumental in the museum’s founding and served as its vice president and founding chairman, was one of three labor leaders honored for their years of devoted service as trustees.

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 17, 2015) — Members of SAG-AFTRA voted to ratify the SAG-AFTRA National Code of Fair Practice for Sound Recordings (Sound Recordings Code), which includes a groundbreaking payment formula for online streaming and non-permanent digital downloads that encompasses revenue from these types of exploitations generated outside the United States. LOS ANGELES (Sept. 11, 2015) – SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of former child star and AFTRA public relations consultant Dick Moore, who was married to screen star Jane Powell. He contributed to AFTRA’s public relations and communications teams for more than three decades. Moore died less than a week from celebrating his 90th birthday.

Moore was an indispensable asset to AFTRA for many years. His writing and no-nonsense approach to communications and public relations helped to speak on behalf of and better inform our members.
