On Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, the ballot tabulation of the Washington-Mid Atlantic Local election was conducted. Please note that some candidates ran unopposed and were declared elected without the necessity of a membership vote. Following are the results of the election. Those positions that required a balloted election are listed with an asterisk*. On May 8, local members gathered for our semi-annual membership meeting held at Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant in Washington, D.C. Members had the opportunity to submit questions about the union, ranging from how to bring more film work to our region to questions about meal benefits and national policies for working on set during extreme temperatures. SAG-AFTRA staff worked diligently to collect all of the member questions in advance and gave brief individualized presentations to answer member concerns.

Members of the Recording Artists and Singers Committee (RASC), known as “RASCals,” have made inroads in fulfilling the purpose of the committee through outreach to local artists and national associations, attending area music events, contributing toward and co-sponsoring events for worthy musical organizations, and promoting SAG-AFTRA’s name and influence in the industry.

Business Representative Ryan Hastings traveled to the Charlotte Film Festival in September and gave presentations at Davidson University and Piedmont Central Community College, hosted a member meet-and-greet and met with several area agents.

On Jan. 29, more than 80 members and their guests from the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local gathered at the Angelika Film Center & Café at Mosaic in Fairfax, Virginia, to watch and celebrate the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Before the show began, guests were invited to mingle with fellow members in the lounge while watching the red carpet interviews. During commercials, the fun continued with games and trivia about the evening’s nominees, and winners went home with some pretty awesome prizes.

Washington-Mid Atlantic Local Office Closed Friday, Jan. 20

The Washington-Mid Atlantic Local office will be closed on Friday, Jan. 20, for Inauguration Day due to significant commuting delays and travel disruptions, including road closures, mass transit changes, blocked bridges and heightened security. Staff will be available to handle emergency phone calls. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The office will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan 23.

Launch of New Virtual Meeting Conservatory Class

The Washington-Mid Atlantic Conservatory has recently completed another successful semester with 14 workshops offered to our members free of charge. Most of the workshops took place at the SAG-AFTRA office in Bethesda, Maryland. However, for the first time, the conservatory held two workshops via webinar using Zoom, an online meeting platform, allowing members to attend or teach no matter where they work or live.
