NextGen Performers Strengthen Union Solidarity

Beginning with last November’s intermingled NextGen Performers and SAG-AFTRA Conservatory mixer at Los Feliz’s Rockwell Table and Stage, the NextGen Performers have been on a roll with several popular events that regularly bring the union’s up-and-coming performers together. Since January, the NGP committee has organized three more gatherings at trendy locations around Los Angeles in which young members, some still new to the union, have been able to get to know their staff and network with fellow members while learning about various facets of the industry in popular L.A. locations. Always a diverse crowd, these actors, stunt performers, singers and dancers have sparked their creativity by brainstorming and networking with fellow artists and learning about projects already in the works.

NextGen Performers are SAG-AFTRA members in the 18–35 age range who encourage fellow union members to take the reins on their careers, get involved with the union and stay active through social media, social networking and much more. The NGP subcommittee is a branch of the larger MOVE L.A. Committee and works to develop, serve and connect the emerging generation of SAG-AFTRA members. Through their community outreach, events, social media and networking opportunities, the NGPs reinforce the vitality of SAG-AFTRA and its benefits early in members’ professional lives. Across the nation, NGP members work together to keep the flame ignited and united in all the country’s major cities, and they’re only expanding — you don’t want to miss out!

The first event of 2017 took place on Jan. 31 at Lucky Strike Live, a bowling alley on the corner of Hollywood and Highland that features great music and steampunk aesthetics, as well as delicious appetizers and drinks. NGP union members came out to meet and mingle with each other through sport.

The following event on March 7 was located a block from the Culver Studios at Culver City’s premier Chi-town-style restaurant and lounge, Rush Street. Attendance was double that of the Lucky Strike event. Members showed up in style to enjoy the outdoor lounge, network, learn more about NGP and enjoy the gourmet snacks and cocktails. NGP committee members mingled in the crowd, handing out SAG-AFTRA merch to attendees for posting with the hashtag #IAmNGP.

Not quite a month later on March 28, the committee held another well-received mixer at Catch of the Day, located on 3rd Street in the heart of Los Angeles. Fantastic turnout, great vibes and industry creativity made this another poppin’ NGP bash!
