Description: Do you want to add more comedy credits to your resume? Los Angeles-based actor Michael D. Cohen applies his unique holistic approach to comedy to help bring you and your unique truth, aliveness and playfulness to your work. Learn specific techniques for analyzing a scene for comedy, nailing the jokes, tone and pacing, and make acting choices that respect the writers yet make you stand out in the casting session. This is a hands-on workshop in which actors will work at the front of the room. You may bring a comedic monologue, a prepared scene with a partner, or alternatively, scenes will be available for cold reading.

• Class size is limited to 40 members per session. Choose one session only.
• Participants will be randomly selected from those who respond, with preference given to those who have not attended Conservatory events in the past year.
• As a courtesy to members on the waiting list, if you have reserved a space in this workshop and cannot attend, please cancel your reservation no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. Failure to do so may result in the inability to attend future workshops.

About Michael D. Cohen
Michael is a Gemini (Canadian Emmy) and Canadian Comedy Award nominated actor. He recently wrapped shooting the lead role in the black comedy feature film It Was You Charlie with director of photography Luc Montepellier (Away From Her, Take This Waltz). His recent TV guest star credits include Modern Family, Austin & Ally and 2 Broke Girls. He has also appeared on Wizards of Waverly Place, My Name is Earl, Eastwick, and many other comedy series, including the award-winning Canadian series Michael:Tuesday & Thursdays with Ed Asner. He has voiced hundreds of commercials and is a lead voice in the animated Disney web series Talking Friends and Grossology. Michael is also an in-demand acting coach. He is on the Los Angeles and national SAG-AFTRA Conservatory Committees and manages the on-camera acting program for the Los Angeles Conservatory at the American Film Institute. He teaches private acting workshops and coaches actors for auditions around the world via Skype. Michael holds a Master’s degree in adult education focusing on transformative education for performers.
This workshop is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing — no guests are allowed. Parents/guardians of performers under 18 years old are welcome. SAG-AFTRA members, please bring your membership card (paid thru April 30, 2013) for admittance.
