SAG-AFTRA member Sean Pratt, a career coach for actors and audiobook narrators, presented Let Me Tell You a Story: An Introduction to the Audiobook Industry for a packed house on Saturday, Feb. 19. Pratt gave inside advice on how working actors can expand their skillsets and career opportunities in the thriving audiobook market, where he has built a successful niche. Pratt shared his insights on the best internet resources for finding work, standards for making an audiobook narration demo reel and basic equipment needs for creating an at-home recording booth.

SAG Awards Viewing Parties were held across Texas on Jan. 21 in concert with nationally televised broadcasts on both TNT and TBS.

Celebrations were held at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in Dallas, Austin and suburban Houston. As a prelude to the televised broadcast, each party featured a reel of production stills from regionally produced SAG-AFTRA projects made over the past year. In Dallas, a member reel of headshots showcasing the region’s union talent was looped on a television monitor at the party’s entrance. A good time was had by all, y’all.

Dear Member,

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have taken a tragic toll throughout the Gulf Coast affecting hundreds of thousands of people including members of our SAG-AFTRA family.

And like family, it is imperative to support each other in times of need. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation and the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund have set up a fund to help members impacted by the storms.

Residents of Texas and Louisiana are currently experiencing record floodwaters which have taken lives and continue to cause unprecedented damage in the region due to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Please note that A+ Actors of Texas has surrendered its SAG-AFTRA franchise effective August 1, 2017, under the SAG Codified Agency Regulations Rule 16(g).

The effect of the surrender is as follows:

No member of SAG-AFTRA may hereafter engage, use, or deal through this agency.

All contracts in force between this agency and the members of SAG-AFTRA are ipso facto and without further notice terminated except that the agency may retain and collect any commissions earned under said contracts prior to the surrender of franchise.

Fresh off the success and excitement of the Script2Screen series of shorts live read on May 7, the ProACT Conservatory hosted a film funding workshop with entertainment and securities attorney John Cones on May 20. Producers, members and other industry players were eager to learn from Cones about the details of investor financing, crowdfunding, new media and distribution.

The Austin Script2Screen Team is currently accepting film submissions for their August read. The Script2Screen series is a LIVE read by professional actors of unproduced film or TV scripts before an industry audience. Scripts are rehearsed, directed and performed by professionals before casting directors, producers, directors, potential investors and industry pros for one performance only.
