With the seating of the 2010-11 SAG National Board of Directors and the change of philosophic direction embraced by the electorate, the way should now be clear to begin a careful, thoughtful, inclusive and open discussion between SAG and AFTRA on the issue of creating a new union for the talent working in the entertainment and media industry.

The process of building a new, strong and focused institution to replace two competing ones will not be quick. If we are to be successful in creating a new entity, we must take all the time necessary to explore, debate and come to a consensus on what this new union will look like and how it will operate. No idea should be summarily dismissed. No resource ignored. - Winter 2010
