Member Alert: Procedures for Re-issuance of Returned MGM Residuals Checks

On November 3, 2010, MGM filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition with the United States Bankruptcy Court. Due to technical issues relating to the bankruptcy process, MGM bank accounts were briefly frozen for a period spanning November 3 and November 4, 2010. During this period, MGM checks were not honored upon deposit and therefore may have bounced. The company intends to honor all past and future obligations arising under Guild collective bargaining agreements, and is already taking steps to do so, even while in bankruptcy.

SAG Reaches Tentative Agreements on Basic Cable and Animation Contracts

Screen Actors Guild Reaches Tentative Agreements for Successor Contracts to the Basic Cable Live Action, Basic Cable Animation and TV Animation Contracts

Screen Actors Guild today announced that tentative agreements were reached on Wednesday, November 10, on new, three-year contracts covering basic cable live action, basic cable animation and television animation productions.

The current contracts expire on June 30, 2011, and the new three-year agreement will be effective from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2014.

Letter to Members from SAG 2nd Vice President Mike Hodge

I am honored that the SAG New York membership has chosen to allow me to serve them on the National Board for one more term. But I am even more grateful that they have seen fit to elect the proven leaders who ran with me on my team. It is clear that the New York membership is solidly behind our commitment to working with AFTRA to bring about One Union to represent everyone who works in front of a camera or a microphone. National election results also seem to indicate that the vast majority of our members are currently, and I think wisely, in favor of merger.

Letter to Members from SAG 1st Vice President Ned Vaughn

The recent SAG board elections produced a remarkable outcome. Here in Hollywood, and throughout the country, Guild members overwhelmingly elected leaders who believe SAG and AFTRA should unite to form a single union. Previous 1st Vice President Anne-Marie Johnson said members delivered a mandate, noting, “They want to merge, and they want it taken care of as soon as possible.” I agree.
