Tony Shalhoub, Susan Sarandon Fire up Wisconsin Protesters

SAG members Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Susan Sarandon (The Lovely Bones, Thelma & Louise) joined thousands of protesters Saturday in Madison, Wis. in support of union rights. The protest is believed to be the largest in the weeks since Gov. Scott Walker proposed a bill to strip public unions of their collective bargaining rights. Some estimates put the number of attendees as high as 100,000, larger than Madison’s anti-war rallies during the Vietnam era.

Screen Actors Guild member Tony Shalhoub (Monk, How Do You Know) will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to rally with other union members at the state capitol in support of Wisconsin workers on Saturday afternoon, March 12.

In the last Call Sheet, I wrote that uniting SAG and AFTRA is the most important step we can take to protect and strengthen the future for actors. Attending the 2011 SAG Awards program, I was pleased to hear enthusiastic support for that idea throughout the evening. SAG Video "American Indian Actors" Challenges Stereotypes

American Indian Actors is an educational video, commissioned by the SAG President's National Task Force for American Indians and funded by the SAG-Producers Industry Advancement and Cooperative Fund. The film challenges stereotypes by presenting a spectrum of Native American performers of diverse ages and backgrounds, who share true stories from thefront lines of the entertainment industry. Their experiences reveal American Indian actors to be vibrant, modern, complex and funny.

SAG Awards Nominating Committee to be Chosen April 1

The 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards® Nominating Committee will be randomly selected on April 1. In order to be eligible, your November 2010 dues must be paid by March 18, 2011.

Voting for the SAG Awards® is done in two stages. The first, nominations balloting, is voted on by two nominating committees. These nominating committees are selected at random by computer each year. The second stage of voting, the final balloting, begins after nominations are announced in December.
