With the seating of the 2010-11 SAG National Board of Directors and the change of philosophic direction embraced by the electorate, the way should now be clear to begin a careful, thoughtful, inclusive and open discussion between SAG and AFTRA on the issue of creating a new union for the talent working in the entertainment and media industry.
The holidays are around the corner, and the current economy will make it a tough one for many Americans. That’s why I’m especially happy that the last few weeks have brought SAG members much to be thankful for.
I’m happy to report that after six weeks of bargaining, SAG and AFTRA reached a tentative agreement with producers for our TV/Theatrical & Exhibit A contracts. On December 4, the joint SAG and AFTRA national boards will meet to review the agreement in detail and determine if it should be recommended to members for their approval. As I will tell board members then, I strongly believe this deal should be ratified.
Dear Fellow SAG Member:
Right now, more than 140,000 American troops are deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, spending the holidays far away from home. Connecting with their loved ones by phone will make all the difference at this special time, and I'm asking you to join me in helping them do just that.
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, Screen Actors Guild offices will be closed on Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26 and will resume regular business hours on Monday, November 29.
Please note that SAG offices will close early on Wednesday, November 24 as follows:
National Headquarters — 12:30 p.m. (PT)
New York Office — 1 p.m. (ET)
Regional Branch Offices* — 12:30 p.m. (PST, CST, EST)
*Joint SAG/AFTRA Office schedules may differ.
In a show of support for the creators and performers working in new media, and the new opportunities the space has created for LGBT and other traditionally underrepresented performer groups, the SAG National LGBT Actors Committee and SAG New Media jointly sponsored New Media Film Festival San Francisco, held November 5-7.
