SAG-AFTRA remembers the tremendous Casey Kasem, a DJ and television personality whose distinctive style and influential American Top 40 program changed broadcasting.
Kasem, who joined SAG in 1966 and AFTRA in 1979, also worked as a voice actor, perhaps most famously as the voice of Shaggy on Scooby-Doo. His American Top 40, Casey’s Top 40 and his various other spin-off shows were staples of the American music scene, as was his signature sign-off line, “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”
SAG-AFTRA today released the following statement on the death of actor, activist and SAG Life Achievement recipient Ruby Dee:
SAG-AFTRA mourns the loss of SAG Life Achievement Award recipient Ruby Dee, who died yesterday at the age of 91. The multitalented Dee distinguished herself as an actor, writer and activist and received the Life Achievement Award in 2000 with husband Ossie Davis. They were only the second husband-and-wife team to win the award, the other being Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward in 1985. Dee was predeceased by Davis in 2005.
SAG-AFTRA celebrates the life of member Ann B. Davis, who has died at the age of 88. Davis, best known for her role as Alice on the 1970s ABC comedy "The Brady Bunch," served as a national board member of Screen Actors Guild from 1958 to 1963, during the SAG presidencies of Ronald Reagan, Howard Keel and George Chandler.
