SAG-AFTRA is heading to Broadway!
On Friday, Dec. 20, the union’s two separate Madison Avenue offices will shut its doors for good and reopen Jan. 6 at One Lincoln Plaza, 1900 Broadway. This new space, across from Lincoln Center, will unite staff, who have been working in two locations since the March 2012 merger. Members, who have shuffled between the 260 and 360 Madison Avenue locations will now have one convenient location to conduct all their union business.
Today, staff members at Chicago Public Media (CPM) voted to join 165,000 media and entertainment professionals in choosing SAG-AFTRA as their union.
The new bargaining unit will cover 49 public media professionals who produce, report, host and present content for WBEZ, Vocalo, Sound Opinions and CPM’s digital services. CPM employees are looking forward to negotiating a first contract.

We’re all aware that there are members who have solid earnings but are still falling short of qualifying for union health coverage because those earnings are being split between SAG and AFTRA contracts. Although there have always been participants that have had employer contributions made to both plans, the split in those contributions has been aggravated in recent years by shifts in the industry that have resulted in increasing numbers of participants who have sufficient joint earnings, but are not qualifying for either plan.
