SAG-AFTRA Remembers Legendary Stunt Performer Hal Needham

SAG-AFTRA mourns the loss of legendary stunt performer Hal Needham, who has passed away at the age of 88.

Whether it was jumping out of an airplane or flying a rocket powered pickup trick, Needham never shied away from danger. In June of 2011, Needham visited the former SAG headquarters to share stories of his life with an eager audience who filled the James Cagney Board Room to capacity.

SAG-AFTRA OKs Extension of Corporate/Educational/Non-Broadcast Contracts

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 8, 2013) --- SAG-AFTRA has agreed to a one-year extension of two of its legacy contracts for corporate, non-broadcast and educational work. The National Board of Directors ratified the agreement between the union and the Producers Group on Oct. 1 at its meeting in Los Angeles.
 

Judge Grants SAG-AFTRA Dismissal Motion in Asner Lawsuit

Los Angeles (Oct. 7, 2013) –– A Federal Court Judge today granted in full a SAG-AFTRA motion to dismiss the vast majority of the plaintiff’s complaint in the Asner v. SAG-AFTRA matter.

SAG-AFTRA counsel Bob Bush of Bush Gottlieb, said, “We applaud the judge’s action today. We basically got everything we asked for and the vast bulk of the plaintiff’s frivolous complaint has been dismissed, as it should have been.”

SAG-AFTRA Passes Historic Convention Resolution Supporting LGBT Members

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 3, 2013) --- Delegates to the inaugural SAG-AFTRA National Convention on Saturday unanimously approved an historic resolution recognizing and supporting the union’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members.

SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors Meets in Los Angeles

Los Angeles (Oct. 1, 2013) – The SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors met Monday and Tuesday and reviewed several administrative, finance and governance matters, including setting a start date for Wages and Working Conditions meetings for the upcoming SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical contracts negotiations.
 
This was the first meeting of the first-elected National Board of SAG-AFTRA, which followed the union's four-day convention in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 29, 2013)-- The inaugural SAG-AFTRA National Convention concluded today with inspiring speeches from the union’s top officers, which focused on the convention’s theme: United for Our Future. LOS ANGELES (Sept. 29, 2013) --- Executive Vice President Gabrielle Carteris welcomed delegates Saturday for day three of the SAG-AFTRA National Convention and congratulated Friday's George Heller Award recipients, actor David Hartley-Margolin and Washington–Mid Atlantic Executive Director Patricia O’Donnell.

Visiting from Washington, D.C. was Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez., who thanked the leadership for their work during an exciting time for the union.
 

SAG-AFTRA Convention Hosts Celebration

Mary Hart (Entertainment Tonight) hosted the SAG-AFTRA Inaugural National Convention Celebration dinner event on Sept. 27 during the convention’s second night, featuring a trio of special recognition ceremonies and a musical performance led by Dorian Holley (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno).

The celebration honored members and employers with awards recognizing commitment to service, diversity and leadership.
