KPBS Staff in San Diego Vote to Recognize SAG-AFTRA as Their Union

SAG-AFTRA today released the following statement:

Today, staff at KPBS public radio and television in San Diego voted to join 165,000 media and entertainment professional in recognizing SAG-AFTRA as their union.

The new bargaining unit will cover 55 public media professionals who produce, report, host, and present content for television, radio, and the internet. This election allows them to move forward to negotiate a first contract.

SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of John C. Hall Jr., a former national executive secretary of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, who died Nov. 10. Hall was deeply dedicated to unionism and selflessly gave of his time and energy to promote the wellbeing of performers and media professionals.

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 8, 2013) --- SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America, West on Wednesday, filed an amicus brief in the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit supporting Junie Hoang’s appeal seeking a new trial on her charge that IMDb violated its privacy policy in accessing her private data.

SAG-AFTRA mourns the loss of legendary stunt performer Hal Needham, who has passed away at the age of 88.

Whether it was jumping out of an airplane or flying a rocket powered pickup trick, Needham never shied away from danger. In June of 2011, Needham visited the former SAG headquarters to share stories of his life with an eager audience who filled the James Cagney Board Room to capacity.
