The SAG-AFTRA Hawaii Local mourns the passing of Glenn Cannon on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Cannon, who, for more than 20 years, served as president and board member of the former Screen Actors Guild Hawaii Branch and as current co-president of the SAG-AFTRA Hawaii Local. Born in Philadelphia, Cannon joined the union in the 1950s when he began his career in New York, acting in A Moon for the Misbegotten and The Good Woman of Setzuan on Broadway, as well as numerous off-Broadway and touring productions, including The Threepenny Opera and West Side Story.
NEW YORK, (APRIL 6, 2013) — SAG-AFTRA and the Joint Policy Committee have reached a tentative agreement on terms for successor agreements to the television and radio commercials contracts, subject to approval by the SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors later this month.
Both parties recognized the positive and productive results of this negotiation and highlighted their joint commitment to grow the work for performers under these contracts while further strengthening the industry.
LOS ANGELES (April 2, 2013) -- SAG-AFTRA considers the right of performers to control the use of their image to be of utmost importance and we vigorously protect those rights. Our collective bargaining agreements include protections for performers against exploitation of audition and interview tapes, which must be erased upon performers’ request. Failure to comply with such a request will result in formal legal action pursuant to the agreements.
SAG-AFTRA mourns the loss of Hugh Gordon Stoker. Stoker was born in 1924 in Gleason, TN, and began his music career at the age of 15 playing piano on WSM radio. After a stint in the Air Force, he returned to Nashville, and in 1949, joined the Gospel quartet , The Jordainaires , first as a piano player then as the group’s tenor. Following a concert in Memphis the group was approached by a then unknown singer named Elvis Presley, who asked them to be his backup singers if he was ever signed to a major label.

Pursuant to the SAG-AFTRA Constitution, Locals may designate one or more Local Officer, Local Board, or Convention Delegate position(s) for members in a particular work category or group of work categories. Except as otherwise specifically provided in your Local Constitution, if you wish to be eligible to run for one of these Local designated category positions, you must be registered in that category no later than April 1, 2013. Members who change their category after that date will be ineligible to run for those Local-designated category positions.
