Los Angeles (October 27, 2011) — An actor’s actual age is irrelevant to casting. What matters is the age range that an actor can portray. For the entire history of professional acting, this has been true but that reality has been upended by the development of IMDb as an industry standard used in casting offices across America.

SAG, AFTRA, Actors' Equity Announce the 2011 Tri-Union Diversity 'Ivy" Award Recipients

Los Angeles (Oct 26, 2011) — The affirmative action committees of American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Screen Actors Guild and Actors’ Equity Association are delighted to announce the 9th Annual Ivy Bethune Tri-Union Diversity Awards, honoring actor/educator Bill Cosby; actor J.R. Martinez; San Diego’s Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company; and disability advocate and dancer Zina Bethune. The event will be held on November 7, 2011 at 8 p.m. at the Nate Holden Theatre Center at 4718 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, 90016.

SAG and AFTRA Group for One Union Meets in Los Angeles

Los Angeles (October 19, 2011) -- The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild convened for the third formal face‐to‐face discussions of the Group for One Union.  Known as the G1, the group consists of members from the Screen Actors Guild Merger Task Force and the AFTRA New Union Committee.

G1 members including actors, performers, recording artists and broadcast professionals are working to facilitate the creation of a merged successor union to represent all the members of AFTRA and Screen Actors Guild.

SAG Joins Entertainment Industry Organizations to Unite In Support of Imprisoned Iranian Filmmakers

In September 2011, the Iranian government arrested six independent filmmakers for allegedly working with the BBC, on charges including espionage and treason. Along with the ongoing house arrest of director Jafar Panahi and the prior arrest of actress Marzieh Vafamehr, who was later sentenced to one year in prison and 90 lashes, the arrests sparked outrage from filmmaking communities within Iran and around the world. Prior to the release of two of the filmmakers, all six were denied access to their lawyers and families, who were forced to remain silent. 
 

SAG Awards® Honored with Environmental Media Association Green Seal Award for Third Consecutive Year

LOS ANGELES (October 17, 2011) – The Screen Actors Guild Awards® has been honored for the third consecutive year with the Environmental Media Association (EMA)’s Green Seal, recognizing a production’s outstanding efforts to implement sustainable initiatives and promote environmental awareness. The EMA Green Seal was presented for the green practices of the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® at the 21st Annual EMA Awards on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Warner Brothers Studios.
