SAG Members March to Fight Alzheimer’s

On October 9, Los Angeles-area SAG, AFTRA and Actors’ Equity members joined together on the 5-kilometer Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raises funds to combat Alzheimer’s disease.

Team We Take Care of Our Own — Actors Unite to End Alzheimer's was organized by Nancy Daly, a member whose mother suffers from the affliction. “I  knew I had to do something when I went home for the Fourth of July weekend and my mom didn’t know me,” Daly said.

Cliff Robertson, Former SAG Board Member, Dies at 88

Screen Actors Guild mourns the loss of former National Board member Cliff Robertson. The actor died Saturday in Stony Brook, N.Y., one day after his 88th birthday.

SAG Members Awarded Union Plus Scholarships

Union Plus has awarded $150,000 in scholarships to 130 students representing 43 unions, including four representing Screen Actors Guild in the 2011 Union Plus Scholarship Program.
 
Screen Actors Guild congratulates scholarship recipients:
 
•Evan Griffith of New York, NY, whose parents Edward and Lisa Griffith are both SAG members, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
 
•Jan Neuberger of Newtown, CT, who has been a SAG member since 1974, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
 

Screen Actors Guild Hosts Gathering of Labor Leaders

Screen Actors Guild’s New York Division hosted a special reception May 25 for labor leaders from the entertainment community. The SAG New York Host Committee Labor Leader Reception brought together more than 100 people, including leaders of organized labor and elected officials from guilds and unions, to discuss labor issues of mutual concern. Excitement about the merger between SAG and AFTRA was a hot topic of conversation. Special guests included SAG President Ken Howard, SAG National Executive Director David White and New York state AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes.
