Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: I AM PWD Campaign Pushes for More Roles for Performers with Disabilities

Pittsburgh (March 17, 2010) — Efforts to cast performers with disabilities in film, television and stage roles was the focus of an article in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The piece by Tina Calabro featured the work of the tri-union I AM PWD campaign — the Inclusion in the Arts and Media for People with Disabilities campaign of SAG, AFTRA and Actors’ Equity.

SAG National Board of Directors Approves Joint Bargaining Agreement with AFTRA

Los Angeles and New York, (March 13, 2010) - Screen Actors Guild National Board of Directors today approved 78 percent to 22 percent a joint bargaining agreement with American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) for the negotiation of successor agreements for the contracts covering theatrical motion pictures and primetime dramatic television. The AFTRA National Board of Directors previously approved joint bargaining at its meeting February 27, 2010.

The motion was approved and reads:

SAG Life Achievement Recipient Betty White to Host SNL

The people have spoken — and Betty White will host the May 8 episode of Saturday Night Live.

Following White's SAG Life Achievement honor in January, a Facebook campaign was launched imploring SNL to book the funny lady as host. The campaign grew even stronger following White's Super Bowl Snickers commercial.

SAG Advocates for Actors Against Digital Theft

Combating the destructive practice of online theft of copyrighted motion pictures and TV shows is a top priority for Screen Actors Guild.

Illegally downloading or streaming stolen content and/or purchasing illegally made or copied CDs and DVDs poses a considerable threat to the livelihoods and futures of the tens of thousands of actors and others employed by the entertainment industry.

Conversations with Ken Howard

Guild members will get to meet the president Sunday, March 21 in Nevada and hear his take on the acting profession.

SAG National President Ken Howard will participate in an hour-long SAG Foundation Conversations discussion, moderated by actor Michael Tylo, at 12:30 p.m. at the Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in Cohiba Room 10.

SAG NED David White and Others Meet with Secretary of Labor

March 8, 2010–David P. White, national executive director of Screen Actors Guild, along with a number of labor allies from various industries, met with Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and Undersecretary for International Affairs Sandra Polaski today at Department of Labor headquarters in Washington, D.C. 

White and various labor leaders met with the Secretary for several hours to discuss a host of labor issues in advance of the upcoming G20 meeting and an international gathering of labor ministers related to the summit.
