SAG Applauds City, State Action on Unlawful Background Fees
Screen Actors Guild today voiced its support for actions by the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney and the State labor commissioner, which are cracking down on unlawful fees charged by background casting businesses.
In all, cease-and-desist letters were sent to 14 background casting companies on Wednesday, warning that requiring actors to pay a fee for access to work is a violation of California labor law. L.A. City Attorney Carmen Trutanich sent the letters to background casting companies operating in the city, with the goal of achieving industry-wide compliance.
Important Information Regarding the SAG/AFTRA Non-Broadcast/Industrial/Educational Contract Referendum
On behalf of the Joint AFTRA/SAG Negotiating Committee and members of the National Board of Screen Actors Guild and the National Administration Committee of AFTRA, we are pleased to enclose for your ratification on the terms for successor agreements to the AFTRA and SAG Non-Broadcast/Industrial/Educational Contracts. These new agreements, if ratified by the joint memberships, will be effective as of May 1, 2011 and continue through April 30, 2014.

Los Angeles, (April 30, 2011) – The Screen Actors Guild National Board of Directors today unanimously approved the creation of a Merger Task Force to work with their AFTRA counterparts in developing a formal plan to unite SAG and AFTRA members in one union.
The Presidents' Forum for One Union Listening Tour Comes to Boston and Returns to Hollywood and New York
The SAG and AFTRA Presidents’ Forum for One Union has been holding Listening Tour meetings throughout the country to get input from members, and three additional dates have been set.

An Update from the Presidents' Forum for One Union
The Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA Presidents’ Forum for One Union met on April 2 and 3, 2011, in New York City.
The meeting resulted in meaningful progress toward the goal of uniting SAG and AFTRA. Representatives of both unions unanimously approved draft resolutions for consideration by the unions’ respective National Boards of Directors. The recommendations include a draft mission statement for the successor union and the appointment of formal groups to work on a proposed meeting schedule to develop a merger plan.
Screen Actors Guild Members Commemorate We Are One
On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he had gone to stand with sanitation workers demanding their dream: The right to bargain collectively for a voice at work and a better life. The workers were trying to form a union.
