Joint Statement from AFTRA, DGA, IATSE and SAG - Commending Legislation to Make Illegal Streaming a Felony

Los Angeles (May 12, 2011) – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), Directors Guild of America (DGA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada (IATSE), and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) today released the following statement:

Screen Actors Guild Statement Regarding Digital Theft Investigation

In light of Monday’s news regarding a law enforcement investigation into the illegal uploading of several of this year's award-winning films, Screen Actors Guild has released the following statement:

“Whether it involves a criminal business enterprise or a member of our community, illegal uploading and downloading of copyrighted materials is stealing, pure and simple.

Screen Actors Guild Members Commemorate We Are One

On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he had gone to stand with sanitation workers demanding their dream: The right to bargain collectively for a voice at work and a better life. The workers were trying to form a union.
 
This week, members of Screen Actors Guild join in solidarity with union members and working families across the nation. Here are videos and photos from just a few members participating in our virtual rally and in rallies across the country.

Ivy Bethune is well-known to SAG, AFTRA and AEA members for her nearly 80 years of service to her unions and to the civil rights movement. Today, as we mark the April 4th commemoration of the passing of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and come together for WE ARE ONE,  the woman known affectionately as Miss Ivy shares her thoughts with her fellow union members.

SAG Members Join Thousands at Saturday's Rally for Workers in Los Angeles

Screen Actors Guild members joined thousands of people in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to show solidarity with fellow unions. Since Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker launched an attack on public sector unions’ right to collective bargaining, labor groups have been staging rallies around the country and gathering support to fight back. (See photo gallery below.)

Marking "We Are One" on April 4

Forty-three years ago, just before his assassination on April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood with 1,300 Memphis sanitation workers to demand human rights, basic respect and collective bargaining to gain a better life.  Today, hundreds of thousands of working people are taking the same stand- together.
