SAG-AFTRA Passes Historic Convention Resolution Supporting LGBT Members

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 3, 2013) --- Delegates to the inaugural SAG-AFTRA National Convention on Saturday unanimously approved an historic resolution recognizing and supporting the union’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members.

Los Angeles (Sept. 28, 2013) –On Friday, the second day of SAG-AFTRA’s National Convention mixed business with educational opportunities for delegates.

The day’s business started with a video greeting from National President Ken Howard, who apologized for missing today’s sessions but who was working on a project and unable to attend. In Howard’s absence, the gavel was turned over to newly elected Executive Vice President Gabrielle Carteris who thanked the delegates for electing her and welcomed to the dais the seven newly elected vice presidents.

SAG-AFTRA Reports Results of Groundbreaking LGBT Study

Lessbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) actors face continued discrimination, even as workplace opportunities and conditions improve, according to a first-of-its kind report by SAG-AFTRA and UCLA’s Williams Institute. The report, titled, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Diversity in Entertainment: Experiences and Perspectives of SAG-AFTRA Members, found one-third of all survey respondents believed that casting directors, directors and producers may be biased against LGBT performers, and more than half of LGB performers had heard anti-gay comments on set.

SAG-AFTRA Announces American Scene Award Recipients

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 24, 2013) --- SAG-AFTRA today announced its recipients for the first SAG-AFTRA American Scene Awards. The awards are scheduled to take place on Friday, Sept. 27 as part of the Celebration event honoring SAG-AFTRA’s inaugural convention. The Inaugural National Convention Celebration is a dinner event with host Mary Hart (Entertainment Tonight). The evening includes entertainment and a special musical performance led by Dorian Holley (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno).
