Los Angeles (August 1, 2012) — SAG-AFTRA today received a new, national charter from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. SAG-AFTRA joins 55 other unions, comprising more than 12 million working men and women, under the AFL-CIO banner.
Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte is representing Screen Actors Guild this weekend at the 2011 Next Up Summit. The event, taking place in Minneapolis from September 29 – October 2, is hosted by the AFL-CIO and brings together young people to discuss organizing, the recent legislative attacks on workers’ rights and the economic crisis, which has had a disproportionate impact on younger workers.
Screen Actors Guild is pleased to announce that Executive Director, Communications, Pamela Greenwalt was elected vice president of the International Labor Communications Association Executive Council. The council is a governing board, which sets policy, direction and strategy for the organization. The election came during ILCA’s biennial convention in Seattle this past weekend.

Union Plus has awarded $150,000 in scholarships to 130 students representing 43 unions, including four representing Screen Actors Guild in the 2011 Union Plus Scholarship Program.
Screen Actors Guild congratulates scholarship recipients:
•Evan Griffith of New York, NY, whose parents Edward and Lisa Griffith are both SAG members, has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
•Jan Neuberger of Newtown, CT, who has been a SAG member since 1974, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Screen Actors Guild has once again been recognized for communications excellence by the International Labor Communications Association, winning four awards for communications efforts that took place during the 2010 calendar year. "It is an honor to be recognized by our peers and we are all quite proud of the achievement," said SAG Communications Executive Director Pamela Greenwalt.
